Tour de France 2023: Victor Lafay ejected from bike in ‘horrible surprise’ during Stage 16 time trial

Victor Lafay (Cofidis) had a “horrible surprise” as he was rudely unseated from his bike during the individual time trial on Stage 16 at the 2023 Tour de France.

A flurry of crashes impacted riders at the first corner of the parcours, but Lafay’s incident came towards the end of the 22.4km course in Combloux after a chain issue.

“It’s the chain. It jumped, blocked, flipped off… and he got a horrible surprise,” said Robbie McEwen on Eurosport commentary after the Frenchman was sent crashing to the tarmac.
