Tourist boat capsizes boat outside Buffalo
A tourist boat at an underground Erie Canal attraction in Lockport, New York capsized on Monday morning, authorities said.
There were 36 people onboard, according to the website Alertpage, Inc. which publishes emergency scanner dispatches online.
A subsequent dispatch alert from the site indicated that all of the passengers had been rescued.
“Lockport police and fire departments, as well as several other agencies [sic] are working to assist parties that were on a boat that capsized in the Lockport Cave Tours,” a statement from Lockport Police released at 11:25 a.m. said.
“Crews are working to assist all parties safely out of the area. The incident is still ongoing,” the statement read.
It’s unclear what caused the vessel to capsize.
Lockport Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.
The Lockport Caves is a tourist destination that features underground boat rides along the Eric Canal’s Niagara Escarpment ridge, about 30 miles northeast of Buffalo, according to its website.
The water in the cave itself is roughly 4 to 6 feet deep, WIVB-TV reported.
