Trump hints at legal action over FBI’s Mar-a-Lago search

Former President Donald Trump on Friday said he would soon file a “major motion” in connection with the FBI’s search on his Florida estate earlier this month.

Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, alleging that his constitutional rights against unreasonable search and seizure were violated in the Aug. 8 Mar-a-Lago search.

Federal agents, acting on a search warrant, stormed Trump’s palatial estate as part of a probe into whether the 45th president illegally took classified material when he left the White House.

Agents left with 27 boxes of material, 11 of which contained classified documents which they suspect violate the Espionage Act and other statutes, according to federal authorities.

“A major motion pertaining to the Fourth Amendment will soon be filed concerning the illegal Break-In of my home, Mar-a-Lago, right before the ever important Mid-Term Elections,” Trump wrote in his Friday social media post.

“My rights, together with the rights of all Americans, have been violated at a level rarely seen before in our Country. Remember, they even spied on my campaign. The greatest Witch Hunt in USA history has been going on for six years, with no consequences to the scammers. It should not be allowed to continue!”

Trump’s announcement came a day after the federal judge who signed off on the search warrant moved to make parts of the affidavit that established probable cause for the search public, despite objections from federal prosecutors.

Prominent media outlets have argued that unsealing the document would enable the public to see if the search was justified.

Attorney General Merrick Garland issued a rare statement defending the feds in the wake of the search saying he would “not stand by silently when their integrity is unfairly attacked.”

Trump has argued that he used his presidential powers to declassify the seized materials before he took them home from the White House.
