Turkish Masters cancelled, World Snooker Tour ‘exploring all options’ to find alternate event

The 2023 Turkish Masters has been cancelled, World Snooker Tour (WST) have confirmed.

The event was due to take place from March 13-19 as the third ranking event to be held outside of the UK this season.

“We have made every possible effort to keep this event on the calendar over the past nine months, since the inaugural Turkish Masters took place in March 2022,” read a WST statement.

“Unfortunately, attempts by the local promoter to guarantee adequate funding for the event have been unsuccessful. WST always seeks assurances over the viability of events for its players and unfortunately on this occasion, these assurances could not be provided in the timeframe necessary for this event to be delivered.”

WST are “now exploring all options” to fill the gap on the snooker calendar between the Six Red World Championship and Tour Championship.

Judd Trump won the inaugural Turkish Masters last year, making a historic 147 as he beat Matthew Selt 10-4 in the final.
