Tyler Christopher found dead by pal as new details emerge
A friend of “General Hospital” star Tyler Christopher reportedly found the late actor dead at home after failing to hear from him.
Sources within San Diego law enforcement told TMZ that officers responded to a 911 call from Christopher’s apartment around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The source said that a friend close to the late actor, 50, gained entry to the apartment by using a key they had been given by Christopher.
It is reported that the unidentified friend then found the “Ice Storm” star already dead in the bedroom.
The source added that according to police, Christopher had been deceased for some time already.
The Post has reached out to Christopher’s rep for comment.
Christopher’s “GH” co-star Maurice Benard later confirmed the Emmy winner’s death on Instagram.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher,” Benard, 60, wrote. “Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.”
“Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him.”
Benard also touched upon Christopher’s battle with mental health and substance addictions.
“Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol,” Benard added. “We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”
Christopher’s rep, Chi Muoi Lo, confirmed the star’s passing to The Post.
“I can confirm that Tyler Christopher has passed away this morning,” Lo wrote in the statement. “This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss. He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much.”
The late actor appeared in two roles on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital.”
From 1996 to 2016, Christopher played Nikolas Cassadine as well as Connor Bishop from 2004 to 2005.
Christopher later won the 2016 Daytime Emmy Award for his work on the long-running show.
In 2017, the late actor joined the cast of “Days of Our Lives” as Stefan DiMera and gained another Emmy nomination for his work.
Christopher was later replaced by Brandon Barash in 2019.
Vanessa Marcil, who was previously engaged to the late star, released her own tribute to the actor.
“Ugh, another loss! Waaaay too young,” Marcil, 55, shared on her Instagram Story. “Rest in peace bubs.”
Christopher would later was marry “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004 and former ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo from 2008 to 2021.
In 2008, the star married auto reporter Brienne Pedigo and had two children. The pair later divorced in 2021.
Christopher is survived by his two children, Greysun James Christopher and Boheme Christopher, whom he shared with Pedigo.
