Val Kilmer wants to be Batman again after ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ comeback

Dust off the Bat-Signal because Val Kilmer is ready to don the Batsuit once more.

Val Kilmer said Tuesday that he would be interested in stepping back into the role of Batman after the box office success of “Top Gun: Maverick” earlier this year.

Kilmer made the revelation during an email interview with IGN — he’s unable to speak after a tracheotomy several years ago — that was posted on the reporter’s Twitter feed.

“We now have multiple universes in comic book movies where actors who’ve played Batman or Spider-Man in the past team up with the current actor playing the role. Would you have any interest in playing Batman/Bruce Wayne again even in a cameo?” asked the IGN reporter.

“Yea please,” responded Kilmer.

Kilmer starred opposite Chris O’Donnell in the 1995 film “Batman Forever” — which also saw the debut of the infamous “Bat-nipple” suit — before being replaced by George Clooney for the 1997 franchise entry “Batman & Robin.”

The news of the 62-year-old actor’s potential return to Gotham comes shortly after Warner Bros. decided to shelve the upcoming “Batgirl” film, which starred Leslie Grace as the titular character with Michael Keaton reprising his role as Batman.

In the Tuesday interview, Kilmer also reflected on his experience in the first “Top Gun” film, during which he and the other cast members “had a blast as young actors!!” He added that with the new film “it was just nice to be with Tom [Cruise] and get the chance to connect again!!”
