Arsenal

The big one is going to be whether or not the Gunners can add Moises Caicedo from Brighton, having failed in January, or West Ham captain Declan Rice. Or will it even be both, with Granit Xhaka expected to return to Germany?
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan, who is a free agent this summer, while there will also probably be one more defender coming in to help strengthen that area.

Aston Villa

With Unai Emery having shown his ability after arriving mid-season, his late push for Europe has earned him the chance to kick on.

Joao Felix might be an option if his wages are not prohibitively high, but it depends if Atletico Madrid are willing to strike a deal. Youri Tielemans’ arrival might blunt any interest in James Ward-Prowse, but Joao Palhinha could be available from Fulham.

Kieran Tierney, Dusan Vlahovic and Pedro Goncalves are all reflections of renewed ambition at Villa Park for next season.

Bournemouth

It seems Bournemouth, like half of the Premier League, could be a potential gap year option for Manchester City’s James McAtee. They are similarly one of many clubs looking at Bristol’s exciting prospect Alex Scott, too.

There are some less obvious names in the mix too, including FC Cincinnati’s Brandon Vazquez, and Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno.

Brentford

Brentford have proven that their recruitment is one of the best value endeavours in football, and they have been linked with two options to replace goalkeeper David Raya, who will probably be sold to Tottenham.

Caoimhin Kelleher has big-club experience at Liverpool and could cost around £20m, while Nottingham Forest’s Keylor Navas would probably be a talented bargain who is now used to Premier League football.

James McAtee and Jack Clarke are both potential young recruits, while Middlesbrough might be willing to sell Chupa Akpom, if Brentford decide they need a striker to stand in for the banned Ivan Toney.

Brighton

Like Brentford, Brighton have their own transfer market expertise. They, too, are linked with Caoimhin Kelleher, and have also been linked with right-back Sacha Boey at Galatasary.

Two potential bargains are Carlos Alcaraz and Mohammed Salisu, who could be sold by Southampton as they look to lessen the financial damage done by their relegation.

Burnley

With Vincent Kompany in charge in the Premier League for the first season, and given Burnley’s impressive performances last year in the Championship, the Belgian manager might look to his old team, Manchester City, for some loans.

City’s Sergio Gomez is one player in the frame, while some other big-name youngsters elsewhere, like Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka and Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson, have been mentioned. More established names like Charles De Ketelaere and Kieran Tierney would likely cost more money.

Chelsea

Sell them, sell them all! Chelsea’s squad is far too big and that’s not even taking into consideration the players out on loan. The squad has to be trimmed first then new manager Mauricio Pochettino can focus on signings.

It feels as if a new goalkeeper is inevitable, be that Illan Meslier or Andre Onana. The other priority is going to be someone who can score goals; Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez are the names most often mentioned.

Crystal Palace

With Roy Hodgson likely to stay on for another year, the focus could be on the former England boss looking to the short term to keep the team in the Premier League at least for another year before he moves on to a permanent retirement.

Viktor Gyokeres has been linked at Crystal Palace after Coventry failed to go up, and Jefferson Lerma is set to join from Bournemouth. Then there is youngster Jack Clarke at Sunderland who might want to test himself in the Premier League, while Conor Gallagher might think it is time to find a permanent club if Chelsea sell him to balance the books.

Everton

After staying up by the skin of their teeth, reinforcements look key for Everton this summer. Adding a striker, or two, should be top of the list after a season of struggle in front of goal. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a reliable goalscorer when fit, but he started just 15 Premier League games last season. Neal Maupay looks set to depart after a disappointing season and Everton have been linked with former Lyon and Celtic forward Moussa Dembele, who is a free agent.

Everton may also look to add to the squad in defence, while they will likely hope to sell Dele Alli, Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who were all out on loan last season, to raise funds.

Fulham

Marco Silva will be hopeful of keeping key players Joao Palhinha and Aleksandar Mitrovic, as well as adding to the defence, with Fiorentina defender Igor touted as a possible addition. There are also questions over wingers Willian, who is out of contract this month, and Manor Solomon, who Fulham are reportedly keen to sign after a loan spell from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. Fulham have also been linked with a loan return for Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho and a move for Everton’s Demarai Gray.

Liverpool

Liverpool had to sign a new midfielder and they already have done so with Alexis Mac Allister. However, one midfielder does not feel like enough. They are also being linked to Manu Kone, James Ward-Prowse and Khephren Thuram to strengthen the position. It also feels as if another centre-back could be useful.

Luton Town

Luton may be tempted into something that Nottingham Forest attempted last year, with no little success. Forest were able to stay up by recruiting an entirely new set of players for the Premier League, while keeping their best performers from the promotion-winning side.

For Luton, that means that 20-goal man Carlton Morris could be retained up front, and Welsh central defender Tom Lockyer may also be kept for the next campaign, with a select few others kept on.

Manchester City

The new treble-winners will almost certainly need a central midfielder unless Ilkay Gundogan has a change of heart and decides to stay. Bernardo Silva is also rumoured to be leaving too. They’re being linked to both Gabri Veiga and Mateo Kovacic. The other big area of need is going to be centre-back, especially long term with questions over Aymeric Laporte. The key name there is Josko Gvardiol.

Manchester United

Goals, goals, goals. It was a good season under Erik ten Hag but it feels more than ever that Manchester United have to find a new striker if they are truly to challenge their neighbours. At the moment it is not clear whether or not they will be able to afford Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen or who the alternatives might be – Atalanta’s 20-year-old forward Rasmus Hojlund has been mentioned. The other area to watch is goalkeeper, it feels like this could be the summer they move on from David De Gea. Midfield might be an area to strengthen as well.

Newcastle United

It’s pretty clear that Newcastle need some more midfielders, whether they are central or attacking. They’ve been linked to a load of names including Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa, Scott McTominay, Rayan Cherki, Conor Gallagher and James Maddison amongst others. It will be interesting to see who they get as they make their return to the Champions League under Eddie Howe.

Nottingham Forest

One would expect that Forest are less busy than they were last season. Their obvious No. 1 target between the sticks would be Dean Henderson of Manchester United, who is now no longer really mentioned as the successor to David de Gea at Old Trafford.

Expect to see a bit of a clearout of the names from the promotion-winning season, and those who came in last year who failed to make an impact. However, in terms of bringing players in, Callum Hudson-Odoi may want to get back to England after a loan spell with Bayer Leverkusen, as could Romain Saiss at Besiktas. Batista Mendy at Angers is a potential bargain, as is Lassana Coulibaly of Salernitana.

Sheffield United

Two ambitious names in the frame are former players Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire, who may have had their time at their respective Manchester clubs. Carney Chukwuemeka is a potential loan, while Glen Kamara could be back in the Premier League having made his debut for Arsenal in 2015 in the League Cup, and is now a stalwart at Rangers.

Tottenham Hotspur

The first thing to do is going to be to figure out what they are doing with Harry Kane. If he’s gone, then find a replacement. If he’s going to see out the last year of his contract, then there needs to be a succession plan in place. The other big area of need is goalkeeper, with Brentford goalkeeper David Raya reportedly close to joining although the fee still seems to be an issue.

New manager Ange Postecoglou may look to former club Celtic to bring in some trusted additions.

West Ham

Perhaps the biggest question at West Ham is not whether one player comes or goes, but whether David Moyes is the manager next season.

West Ham’s owners can be alternately prolific and parsimonious, and it often seems like they have a scattergun approach to recruitment.

At Everton, Moyes was systematic in identifying talent, and it depends if he thinks he has earned the right to demand backing after landing the Europa Conference League. The owners might otherwise note that the club were not that far from the bottom three.

So the question is when – not if – captain Declan Rice moves on, how much influence and money will Moyes be given to find a replacement and look to build on next year. They arguably need to recruit in every and any position to stand a better chance next year, but a goalscorer would be essential.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

After a challenging season, there have been concerns that manager Julen Lopetegui could depart Wolves.

Keeping Lopetegui should be a priority while Viktor Gyokeres is once again mentioned and Southampton’s relegated James Ward-Prowse might be considered a replacement for Ruben Neves or Joao Moutinho. Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz would perhaps be an option on a free transfer if he is not snapped up by a bigger club.
