Vuelta a Espana 2023: GC action cut short as Lennard Kamna wins on muddy mountain

Lennard Kamna (Bora-hansgrohe) completed his set of Grand Tour wins on Stage 9 at the Vuelta a Espana as more wild conditions led to organisers taking timings 2.05km from the end.

The German – a winner at the Tour de France in 2020 and Giro d’Italia in 2022 – battled up the muddy final climb to take a fine solo victory.

Back down the road, Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) gained a handful of seconds on his GC rivals at the other ‘finish’ line, before the favourites for the red jersey rolled up to the summit without a fight.
