‘We’re gonna get legal weed everywhere’

Afroman is ready for a higher power.

The 48-year-old rapper, known for his 2001 tunes “Because I Got High” and “Crazy Rap,” announced on Instagram this week he is running for president in 2024.

Born Joseph Foreman in Los Angeles, the Grammy-nominated musician said he’s campaigning as an independent candidate and pledged to be “Our Cannabis Commander in Chief. Our Pot Head of State.”

“There comes a time in the course of human events when change must be affected,” his campaign manager, Jason Savage, wrote Tuesday on Instagram. “That time is now. Americans are suffering, and the status quo is no longer acceptable.”

Savage added that Afroman embodies the American dream, as he has experienced the judicial system firsthand and hustled to become successful.

Police raided Afroman’s Ohio home in August on suspicions of kidnapping and drug trafficking, but no charges were filed. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to assault for punching a woman who jumped onstage during a Mississippi concert.

“Who better to hold the highest office in the land, than the highest and flyest playa in the game? He is for the black man, Mexican, even poor white, all human beings that have no rights. So put down your past, and pick up your future,” Savage continued.

Afroman outlined his eight-priority platform:

  1. Decriminalization of cannabis
  2. Criminal justice reform
  3. Law enforcement reform
  4. Immediate halt of all foreign aid
  5. Reparations for African Americans
  6. Promotion of unity, peace and love
  7. Promotion of celebratory displays in professional sports
  8. Legalization of prostitution

Afroman revealed his presidential run at a Missouri concert over the weekend.

“Can I make the biggest announcement I ever made in my life? I’m running for president for 2020-fro,” he told a crowd of adoring fans in a video posted to his Instagram.

“We’re gonna get legal weed everywhere,” he added.

Afroman has released 18 studio albums throughout his career. His latest, “Lemon Pound Cake,” dropped in September.

He is not the first rapper to try to become commander-in-chief. Kanye West infamously ran for president in 2020 as a “Birthday Party” candidate. The troubled “Stronger” rapper announced his plans to run again in 2024 last month.

Ye even claimed that he asked former President Donald Trump to be his running mate — which reportedly did not go over too well.
