What Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck said on tense ‘Mother’ red carpet: lip reader

There was no need to get loud — as a lip reading specialist has deduced what Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck reportedly discussed Wednesday on the LA red carpet for her Netflix movie “The Mother.”

The singer/actress, who appeared to be frowning at times during the interaction, asked Affleck, 50, whether her low-cut top was “showing too much.”

He told Lopez, 53, that it was fine, the Daily Mail reported, quoting a lip reader.

Lopez wore a sequin-covered beige bralette with a matching high-waisted maxi skirt, while Affleck suited up in a black three-piece suit with a white shirt.

The newlyweds continued shuffling, trying to nail their poses for the photographers, as the “Let’s Get Loud” singer gestured to the “Air” actor to get into position.

Jennifer Lopez made several hand gestures to Ben Affleck, apparently telling him where to stand on the red carpet.

Affleck appeared to tell Lopez to come closer to him, leaning into her ear and whispering, “Don’t worry, babe,” per the Daily Mail.

Lopez then tells him to “come close to me.”

After striking several poses, the “Argo” director wraps it up, saying it’s “done.”

Ready to head inside for the premiere, he kisses Lopez and comforts her by asking if she is OK.

She responds “yes” and proceeds to say they need to “step over there” for others on the carpet.

The couple’s tense body language that evening could be attributed to a viral video of Affleck abruptly shutting the car door in Lopez’s face Tuesday.

The clip, posted by the Hollywood Fix, shows the couple walking toward their car and Affleck opening the door for his wife as she gets settled in.

He lightly slams the door closed and glances at the paparazzi with annoyance.

Several YouTube users quickly labeled Affleck’s glare as grumpy, sad or miserable.

“He looks really sad; he doesn’t like paparazzi attention,” commented one person.

“He looks miserable as hell,” agreed another.

“He was obviously upset at the one filming the video,” declared a third.

The awkward exchange follows a heavily scrutinized testy interaction between Affleck and Lopez, who wed in July 2022, at the Grammy Awards in February.
