When is the 2023 Australian Open draw? How to watch and stream the draw? What are the seedings for the draw?

The 2023 Australian Open starts on January 16 and the draw is set to take place this week ahead of the first Grand Slam of the new season.

Rafael Nadal will be the defending men’s champion and will be looking to hold off Novak Djokovic, who is bidding for a record-extending 10th title in Melbourne. Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios are among those who will also be hoping to contend for the trophy.
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek leads the women’s field but could face competition from world No. 2 Ons Jabeur, who made two Grand Slam finals in 2022, and world No. 3 Jessica Pegula, who beat Swiatek at the United Cup this month.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Australian Open draw, including when it will be held, how to watch, and the men’s and women’s seedings…

When is the Australian Open draw?

The 2023 Australian Open draw will take place on Thursday, January 12 from 7am UK time.

The last round of qualifying finishes on January 12 and the main draw for the tournament starts on Monday, January 16.

How to watch the Australian Open draw

You can stream and watch the draw for free on the Eurosport app, discovery+ and eurosport.com on January 12.

How does the Australian Open draw work?

The four Grand Slams – Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open – all have 128-player singles draws.

There will be 32 seeds in each draw and they will be drawn so none of them can face each other until at least the third round.

The top eight seeds will not be able to meet until the quarter-finals, the top four until the semi-finals, and the top two seeds can only meet in the final.

As with all four majors, the seedings are determined by rankings.

What are the Australian Open seeds?

The withdrawal of world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz means defending champion Nadal will be the top seed on the men’s side of the draw ahead of Casper Ruud, Tsitsipas and Djokovic.

Swiatek leads the women’s draw ahead of Jabeur, Pegula and Caroline Garcia.
