Why I never remarried after Elvis
She will always be his Queen.
Priscilla Presley revealed that the real reason she never remarried after divorcing Elvis Presley was because she believed the King of Rock ’n’ Roll wouldn’t have been able to “handle that.”
“I just don’t think that he could handle that,” Presley, 78, said during a live Q&A event at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas on Friday, per People.
According to Priscilla, who was married to the “Suspicious Minds” singer from 1967 to 1973, no one ever really came close to what she and the late singer had.
“To be honest with you, I never wanted to marry after him. I never had any desire,” Presley admitted. “No one could ever match him.”
Priscilla, who met her future husband in 1959 while in West Germany at the age of 14, said that Elvis was just a presence that drew everyone in the room’s attention.
“He would walk into the room and it was like, ‘Whoa,’” she explained. “I mean, he didn’t realize what he had as far as his appearance or what he felt or his charisma.”
“But there was a few times when he came around and he said, ‘Damn, I’m good looking,’ kiddingly, when he would be in his bathroom and he would be getting ready to go somewhere, but he had a great sense of humor.”
The “Finding Graceland” star also recalled how her former husband was incredibly caring and even once bought a stranger a brand new car.
“That’s him, that’s what he would do,” she recalled. “Anyone in trouble, he would give them money. Anyone who had a problem, with anything really and they couldn’t afford it, even with some of the guys who needed medical care, he would pay for it.”
Presley’s relationship with the “Devil in Disguise” singer is the main focal point of Sofia Coppola’s film “Priscilla,” which debuted in theaters on Friday.
The film takes an in-depth look at Elvis’ (played by “Euphoria’s” Jacob Elordi) relationship with Priscilla (played by Cailee Spaeny) and how her husband’s fame begins to cause problems within the marriage.
Off camera, it was revealed last week that Priscilla’s wish to be buried next to her ex-husband and daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, had been granted.
The official documents, signed by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lynn Scaduto and later obtained by People, revealed that she will join her family in Graceland’s Meditation Garden, which is currently owned by her granddaughter, Riley Keough.
In May, Priscilla was initially denied a burial plot at the Tennessee estate during talks regarding her late daughter Lisa Marie’s trust, which listed Keough, 34, as the sole heir to the Presley legacy.
