Why John Corbett’s character looks ‘different’ in ‘And Just Like That’
Aidan Shaw is back in the “Sex and the City” universe.
John Corbett made his grand return as the furniture buyer and past love interest of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) in Thursday’s episode of “And Just Like That.”
However, in order for Corbett, 62, to come back as the character in Max’s “SATC” sequel, he had to get a major upgrade.
On a recent episode of the podcast “And Just Like That… The Writers Room,” creator Michael Patrick King wanted Aidan to be “different” by giving “John a makeover.”
“We cut his hair, we took the turquoise jewelry away. We told him he had to be rock hard when he came back,” King said.
The showrunner added that the “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” star was shocked when he was told he would have to change up his style to portray the character again.
“He was eating fried chicken when I told him, and he dropped the fried chicken on the plate and fell down in the booth that we were sitting in and said, ‘I knew I was a fatty,’” King laughed. “Then he came back rock hard with short hair.”
Despite King revealing that he thought the OG Aidan was purely “perfect,” the change ultimately came down to a “story choice.”
“If we’re bringing somebody back, we have to find some way to bring them back in a new way,” he went on.
Shortly after Thursday’s episode aired, fans on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, joked about Corbett’s appearance.
Someone even likened his look to serial killer Michael Myers from the iconic horror franchise “Halloween.”
One person quipped: “So, my baby Aidan finally showed up tonight he looked good I was smiling harder than Carrie lol but why did Michael Myers come to mind in this scene. #AndJustLikeThat.”
“Aidan shaw you’re still the hottest man ever,” a lovestruck fan tweeted.
Someone else compared Aidan’s outfit in the show to the Tim Burton creation Edward Scissorhands.
His ensemble consisted of a tight black jacket that was cinched with a belt alongside slicked-back hair.
“When he appeared in this coat I literally threw up my hands. What the heck is this. Aidan would never,” one scoffed.
Other fans chimed in and said he looked like a Civil War general, a “Hunger Games” character and even late Beatles member John Lennon.
Aidan was also seen in the 2010 film “Sex and the City 2” where he serendipitously saw Carrie in Abu Dhabi at a spice souk. He appeared in the original HBO series from 2000 to 2001.
The pair shared a kiss during a magical night in the Middle East, despite Carrie still being married to Mr. Big (Chris Noth) at the time.
Noth’s character was later killed off in the first season of “And Just Like That” in 2021.
