Why Snoop Dogg may be giving up weed, 81 blunts in day
Snoop Dogg shocked fans on Thursday with the ultimate revelation: He is giving up weed.
The “Gin and Juice” rapper, 52, announced on social media that he has decided to stop smoking.
The longtime cannabis lover wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of himself praying: ‘“After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke.”
“Please respect my privacy at this time.”
He tweeted in May 2013 the amount of blunts that he rolled up a day, citing 81 as the magic number. However, it wasn’t clear with fans if he was just joking.
So what could have prompted the Death Row Records artist to give up his pride and joy?
The answer could be that he wants to spend more time with his family — now that he’s a grandfather.
The man formerly known as Snoop Lion has been married to wife Shante Broadus since 1997.
They share sons Cordé, 29, and Cordell, 26 and daughter Cori, 24. He also has a son from his prior relationship with Laurie Holmond, named Julian, 25.
His grandkiddies include Leo, Luna, Journey, Zion, Sky, Cordoba, Chateau, Symphony and Elleven.
The West Coast icon shed some light on the importance of his family, telling the Daily Mail in March how being “a grandfather has changed me.”
“The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old,” he explained.
Snoop added: “The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking?”
The “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rap superstar also revealed this past June how his grandchildren “are my everything because they all individually get a piece of my heart and they’re different.”
“My grandpa was my best friend and for me to be that for my grandkids is showing that I actually did well and I was able to outlive the circumstances,” he gushed on his “Words + Music: From the Streets to the Suites” Audible recording.
“Now I can look back — I can teach those who want to get to this level. Or at least give them a blueprint and help them avoid some of the traps that [I] had to deal with.”
He added: “That’s what I want my legacy to be… the gift that kept on giving.”
Snoop first decided he was going to quit joints back in 2002, telling Access Hollywood at the time that he “didn’t need it anymore.”
Snoop’s good friend Martha Stewart dropped her very own bombshell on Thursday, too — she canceled her Thanksgiving dinner this year.
“Nine guests canceled because somebody got sick. So … I called up my chef friend and I said, ‘We’re not doing Thanksgiving,’ ” she said during an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
“I’ve also cooked 14 turkeys already for my TV show, and I still have to [cook] one more turkey on the ‘Today’ show. So forget it,” she went on. “I am all turkeyed out.”
