Will Smith makes bizarre return to Instagram months after Oscars slap
The “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is back with some fresh Instagram content.
Will Smith posted not one but two funny videos to the platform this weekend. The uploads are his first that do not blatantly address when he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars on March 27.
On Friday, the 53-year-old star posted a video of an adult gorilla facing away from a baby gorilla. The smaller animal poked at the elder, who swatted at them in an apparent effort to get them quit it.
Finally, the older gorilla got off its log and chased the annoyance away.
“Me trying to get back on social media,” Smith wrote, joking about his now-controversial presence amidst his declining popularity since Oscars night.
“We miss u,” former teenybopper Justin Bieber commented, a remark that received over 4,800 likes. Others encouraged him to “come back” and “dive back in,” while popular executive coach Jim Kwik offered: “We grow through what we go through.”
On Sunday, Smith turned on the camera as he and his oldest son, Trey, 29, attempted to catch a “big a—” spider crawling around his house.
“Posting this from a Holiday Inn,” he captioned the post.
“What the whole hell?” Will said as he jumped on a chair for safety. “That’s a big ass spider.”
“That’s a tarantula,” Trey said.
“All right, Trey, you gotta get this out of here,” the “Men in Black” hero said to his astonished son. “You’re young and strong. You can handle the bite.”
Trey indeed saved the day and guided the spider into a small glass bowl by sliding a piece of paper underneath.
“This is a spider in the house — we’re selling the house,” Smith declared.
“That’s HIS house now,” commented the “Red Table Talk” official account for the streaming show hosted by Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Prior to those posts, Smith’s latest upload was a nearly six-minute public apology to Rock in late July, a statement that was also posted to YouTube.
“I’ve reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is that he is not ready to talk,” admitted the “King Richard” star. “But when he is, he will reach out.
“So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you,” Will continued as he stared into the camera. “My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
Before Smith assaulted Rock on stage at the Academy Awards, he coincidently captioned a video of him and his wife Jada all dressed up, with the caption: “me ‘n @jadapinkettsmith got all dressed up to choose chaos.”
Smith seemingly partied without a care in the world at the Vanity Fair after-party that night, but the consequences that followed were not so glamorous.
Despite winning the Best Actor award, Smith resigned from the film academy in the weeks following the slap and was banned from attending future Oscars ceremonies for the next 10 years.
