William left Kate ‘in tears’ over NYE plans: royal expert
Prince William reportedly made Kate Middleton cry after he changed plans for New Year’s Eve 2006 at the last minute.
The now-Princess of Wales was allegedly left in “floods of tears” after her royal beau phoned and told her he would not ring in 2007 with her at her family home as had originally been proposed.
At the time, William had been dating Middleton for more than three years but was pondering the future of their relationship, according to author Katie Nicholl.
“William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate,” Nicholl wrote in her 2011 tome “The Making of a Royal Romance.” “Both advised him not to hurry into anything.”
The Post reached out to Prince William and Kate’s reps at Kensington Palace for comment.
Nicholl’s book is back in the spotlight following the release of “Meghan & Harry” — the Netflix docuseries in which Meghan Markle implied that William and Middleton were both “formal” behind closed doors.
In April 2007, just months after William allegedly made Middleton cry, the couple announced the end of their relationship. However, they reconciled later that same year and went on to get engaged in 2010.
The royal couple — who are both 40 years old and parents of three children — tied the knot in a 2011 ceremony watched by more than 160 million people around the globe.
While the couple is famed for their strong union, they have both been under increased media scrutiny following incendiary claims made by Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, in recent years
During Markle and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, the “Suits” star claimed Princess Kate made her cry during a tiff over wedding tights — disputing long-running reports that it was the other way around.
Meanwhile, Harry claimed in the new Netflix docuseries that his brother William “screamed” at him during “Megxit” talks in 2020.
“It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father saying things that just simply weren’t true, and my grandmother quietly sit there and sort of take it all in,” Harry alleged in the show.
Harry and Markle’s relationship with Prince William and Princess Kate is now at rock bottom in the wake of the doc — but it wasn’t always the case.
The quartet was famously dubbed “The Fab Four” by the media prior to “Megxit,” with Markle even gifting Prince William with a “killer” Christmas present in 2017.
