Wimbledon 2023: Britain’s Neal Skupski reaches first Wimbledon doubles final, Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett progress

Britain’s Neal Skupski reached his first Wimbledon final alongside doubles partner Wesley Koolhof on Thursday, while Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett made their seventh in the wheelchair doubles.

Skupski and Koolhof are the top seeds in the men’s doubles and asserted their authority in a 7-5 6-4 win over Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden.

The British player is a two-time Wimbledon champion in the mixed doubles, but success in the men’s has thus far proved elusive.

Standing in he and Dutchman Koolhof’s way are Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers, the 15th seeds, who they face on Saturday.

Skupski and Koolhof made it to the US Open final last year but suffered defeat, and they are yet to win a Grand Slam title together.

British pair Hewett and Reid are a hugely decorated partnership, having won 17 Grand Slam titles together.

They defeated Martin de la Puente and Gustavo Fernandez 7-5 6-3 to progress to a final against Japanese duo Takuya Miki and Tokito Oda.

There was worse news for British fans when Lucy Shuker lost her match alongside partner Aniek van Koot 6-3 6-2 to second seeds Diede de Groot and Jiske Griffioen in the women’s wheelchair doubles.

Brit Greg Slade also bowed out in the Quad wheelchair doubles semis alongside American partner David Wagner, as did Andy Lapthorne with his South African partner Donald Ramphadi.
