Chelsea face Manchester United in a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday, while Arsenal play Reading.
Kaneryd saw an effort cleared off the line before Sam Kerr was fouled in the box and Reiten duly dispatched the penalty.
Reiten was involved in the second goal as her low corner wasn’t cleared and Carter fired into the net.
Brighton struggled to create chances as Chelsea controlled possession and looked untroubled.
Elisabeth Terland hit the bar for Brighton in the second half, but Chelsea scored a third when Kerr squared for Kaneryd to finish.
Substitute Danielle Carter scored a consolation goal for the visitors, who remain two points above bottom-placed Leicester, having played a game more.
Arsenal also scored twice in the first-half as they beat Liverpool.
Blackstenius netted the opener after 28 minutes shortly after Leah Williamson had a goal ruled out for offside.
Foord made it 2-0 when she headed in after goalkeeper Rachael Laws could only parry a shot from Blackstenius.
Liverpool never looked like getting back into the contest and they stay eighth in the table, five points above Leicester.
