Wonderkid Evan Ferguson wants Brighton stay over Manchester United transfer – Paper Round
Ferguson prefers Brighton stay
The Mirror reports that Evan Ferguson believes Brighton are a better option for his career than moving to Manchester United.
“Still a month shy of his 19th birthday, Ferguson has emerged as one of the most exciting strikers in European football. Under the tutelage of Roberto De Zerbi, he already has four goals in five Premier League games this season – a tally only bettered by Erling Haaland.
“Ferguson now looks primed to become the latest mega-money star from the staggering Brighton talent factory. And there is a feeling that he could yet top the British record £115million Moises Caicedo commanded when he left for Chelsea during the summer window.
“But The Seagulls are willing to play the long game with Ferguson, with CEO Paul Barber recently hinting they want him to stay another five years before they look to cash in. That is unlikely to detract suitors, though, with clubs across the continent weighing up their options.”
Rashford turned down United captaincy
Marcus Rashford was one of two players who turned down the captaincy when offered by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Paul Pogba also refusing the offer.
“The duo were both offered the role by then boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – but snubbed it for different reasons.
“In a no-holds-barred interview this week Solskjaer said he was “disappointed” when two players rejected the armband.
“However he refused to name names.
“Now a source has revealed: ‘Paul Pogba was offered it but said he wanted to leave the club so turned it down.
“’Rashford was also asked to take the captaincy but he said he didn’t think he was ready for it.'”
Guimaraes agrees new Newcastle contract with £100m release clause
Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has agreed a new contract with Newcastle – with a massive release clause – according to the Mail.
“Mail Sport can confirm that the deal, which is yet to be signed, includes a release clause in excess of £100 million. Newcastle will feel that protects them against an offer below their valuation of the midfielder.
“The Brazil international’s current contract runs until the summer of 2026 but, after making a significant impact since joining from Lyon for £36m in January 2022, he wanted to be rewarded with improved terms. His new agreement includes a pay rise and expires in 2028.”
De Gea contemplates retirement
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is contemplating retirement after failing to start the season with a new club.
“The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has not received any offer from a top club that convinces him. The Spanish international has received offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia, among others, but has not accepted. He considers that the economic aspect is not now the main thing in his assessment to choose a new club. As the British media outlet explains and we have been able to confirm, he will retire unless he receives an offer soon from a major European club to be the first-choice goalkeeper.
“But it’s going to take its time. At least until the end of the year. He is in no hurry and is still in shape, training to be ready if he receives the right offer.
“De Gea, who will turn 33 in November, has made more than 650 professional appearances, most of them for Manchester United, where he was named player of the season on multiple occasions.”
