1705 WELCOME TO DAY 7!

It’s Friday night and it’s Day 7 of the World Athletics Championships 2023, coming live from Budapest. Four gold medals will find a home over the course of tonight, culminating in the 200 metres finals, starting at around half past eight BST. Will Shericka Jackson finally get her gold and can Noah Lyles do the double? GB’s Dina Asher-Smith and Zharnel Hughes will have something to say about that.

Also coming up, Keely Hodgkinson is looking to keep her medal hunt alive in the 800 metres semi-finals, taking to the track at around 7.20pm BST.

Day six in Budapest provided riveting action in the finals of the men’s long jump and 400m, as well as the women’s hurdles across 100m and 400m, and the hammer throw. The 200m semi-finals also set up the start-list for today’s final.

The men’s long jump final saw Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece claim gold with a winning jump of 8.52m, followed by Jamacian duo Wayne Pinnock and Tajay Gayle winning silver and bronze, respectively.

Camryn Rogers came first in the women’s hammer throw, hurling an impressive 77.22m winning throw to claim her first global gold medal. Her victory follows that of fellow Canadian Ethan Katzberg, who also took home gold in the men’s event.

The women’s 100m hurdles final was fascinatingly poised and did not disappoint. Danielle Williams finished with a 12.43 seasonal best, followed 1/100th of a second later by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in second and Kendra Harrison in third.

Matthew Hudson-Smith lined up for Team GB in the greatly anticipated men’s 400m final. He claimed silver, finishing behind Jamaica’s Antonio Matson, and despite disappointment expressed in Hudson-Smith’s post-race interviews, a silver medal on the global stage after numerous injury setbacks is more than respectable.

Thursday concluded with the women’s 400m hurdles and proved a walk in the park for the Netherlands’ Femke Bol. A finish time of 51.70s saw Bol comfortably claim gold, as Shamier Little took silver and Rushell Clayton bronze.

Day seven is set for more gripping action with finals in the women’s triple jump and javelin throw. From 21:30 UK time onwards, both 200m events commence. GB’s Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita line up together in the women’s final. Zharnel Hughes will also be looking to double his medal collection after winning bronze in the 100m on Sunday.
