Brecel, who had never won a match at the Crucible ahead of the 2023 event, has beaten Ricky Walden, Mark Williams, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Si Jiahui on his way to the final. He fought back from nine frames behind to claim a stunning 17-15 victory over Si.

While Selby – a four-time winner after successes in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2021 – beat Matthew Selt, Gary Wilson, John Higgins and then withstood a Mark Allen fightback on his way to a sixth appearance in a world final.
