Yaqub Salik Talib, brother of former NFLer Aqib Talib, wanted in Texas shooting

The brother of former NFL player Aqib Talib is wanted in connection to a shooting that broke out during an argument at a youth football game in Texas, leaving a coach dead, authorities said Sunday.

Police identified Yaqub Salik Talib as a suspect in the Saturday evening shooting at Lancaster Community Park in southeast Dallas County.

Gunfire erupted during a spat between opposing coaches and the officiating crew that turned physical, Lancaster Police said in a news release.

One man was shot and rushed to a local hospital, but he did not survive. He was identified as youth football coach Mike Hickmon in local reports.

“We send our deepest thoughts and prayers to the family, friends, former teammates, and players of Coach Mike Hickmon after learning about the appalling tragedy that took place earlier this evening in Lancaster,” tweeted the account Texas Football Life on Saturday.

Video of the incident circulating around social media shows a man arguing with a ref with a fight beginning several yards away and then gunshots erupting, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Lancaster city spokesperson Scott Finley said authorities believe Yaqub Talib — whose brother is a former NFL cornerback — was the suspected shooter, according to the newspaper.

An attorney for Aqib Talib told TMZ “Aqib was present when this unfortunate incident occurred and is very distraught and devastated over this terrible loss of life.

Aqib Talib took the field for four teams during his respectable pro career that began in 2008, including a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2015. He hung up his cleats and helmet in 2020.
