In response to questions from The Times, former Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas said: “I don’t foresee federal consensus on abortion legislation. I expect the abortion question to be handled at the state level.”







He denounces government mandates but supports private renewable energy development.








Asa Hutchinson, the former governor of Arkansas, rejects government-led efforts to reduce emissions and says he will “end the war on fossil fuels,” but also says he is open to “market-driven solutions to transition towards cleaner energy sources.”







He supports military aid with audits to ensure funds are used as intended.








Former Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas told C-SPAN that U.S. leadership was “important in supporting Ukraine and bringing the European allies together” against Russia, and that he disagreed with Mr. Trump’s and Mr. DeSantis’s more “isolationist view.”







He is somewhat more moderate than Trump, but still supports strict policies.








Former Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, in a Fox News opinion essay, called for adding Border Patrol agents and authorizing murder charges against people accused of supplying fentanyl that leads to deaths. “We should ensure those who bring evil across our borders and sow criminality throughout our country are proportionately punished,” he wrote.







He has called on Trump to drop out of the presidential race.




I have said from the beginning that Donald Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 should disqualify him from ever being president again. Anyone who truly loves this country and is willing to put the country over themselves would suspend their campaign for president of the United States immediately.”











Unlike many G.O.P. contenders, he believes a trade relationship with China can be maintained.








That position held by former Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas sets him apart from more hawkish competitors.









He wants to balance the budget and cut the federal nonmilitary work force by 10 percent.








The aim of former Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas to balance the federal budget is an extraordinarily difficult task, one that would likely require cuts to popular programs like Social Security and Medicare, which he has left the door open to.
